Flowery Wednesday

A trip to the garden resulted in the discovery of a massive weed infestation. We have had so much rain we couldn't use the tiller, so the weeds have basically taken over. We did get a cucumber and a couple of zucchinis for a nice salad. Hopefully the tomatoes will do well. There are lots of green ones right now.

However, there were lots of zinnias thriving in Bro O's garden.
Elderberries. They make my favorite kind of jelly!

Happy Wednesday!

Mr. Woody

Woody was out again early Saturday morning.
High up in the tippy top of a tree...
...and hanging on the side of an electric pole.

Happy Tuesday!

Dragonfly Day

Over the past few weeks I have collected a few
dragonfly poses. These are a few.
Swift Long-winged Skimmer. Odd stance don't you think? Found at The Rez.
Brown-spotted Yellow-wing. In Bro O's garden.
Widow Skimmer. Taken at Bro O's pond.
Another view of a somewhat different Widow Skimmer. He looks different than the other Widow Skimmer, but according to Insect Identification and my Insect book, that's what it is. Taken at The Rez. I followed him around for quite some time, while Findley complained. He always seemed to land down in the weeds where I couldn't get a clear shot.
Green Clearwing, which I've posted before but had to include in this group.

Happy Sunday!

Juveniles, Ducks, and Woody

Walked over to the Rez last night after it cooled down some, but didn't find any critters to photograph. This morning I got an early start 7:00 a.m. and found more activity.
This is a juvenile Robin up in the tippy top of a tall tree perched on a dead branch.
This is a juvenile, but not sure what. I think he might be a House Finch, but I'm not sure.

The ducks were out, gliding through the water.
And Woody was playing peek-a-boo again today.

Happy Saturday!

4H and a Juvenile

Heat index is predicted to be 114° today. No walking to work for me! I enjoy my morning walks to the office, but not at the expense of arriving a sweaty mess. I've been listening to an audio book At the Water's Edge by Sarah Gruen. By the time it is finished, it will have provided 9 hours of listening pleasure. I'm enjoying the story. She also wrote Water for Elephants which was made into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
On the way to The Rez, there is a large grassy area owned by the village.  Ealier this spring, a garden appeared on the western most side. I wondered who had been allowed to plant a garden on village property. This sign solved the mystery.
They've even put up scarecrows. Cute!
This little guy was up in the tippy top of a very tall tree, hanging out on a dead limb. He is a juvenile Redheaded Woodpecker.
Must be the son/daughter of Woody that keeps taunting me with photo ops but rarely allows an actual photo. Here he is lounging on the volley ball net.

It's Friday! Have a great one!

Camera Club

Last night was camera club night. The assignment was patriotic, yet again. I really get tired of this subject. It seems we always have this one around July 4th and again on Veteran's Day—almost forgot, Memorial Day, too. How much patriotic do we really need? I haven't bothered trying to take anything new, due to lack of motivation, so I dug into the archives at the last minute and found an offering.
This is the picture I chose. It tied for 1st place with a picture of boots, gun, and helmut with the Vietnam traveling wall in the background.

This photo was taken at an antique store in Bridgton, IN. Taken during our last visit to the Covered Bridge Festival about 3 years ago.

Happy Thursday!
